See that super cute boy with the innocent eyes in the above picture?  Don’t fall for it.  Trust me……We are in the middle of potty training John.  He largely refuses to use the potty here, but is doing semi-well at daycare.  Every day he comes home in his training pants.  Today, he peed in his pants so I took him downstairs to change his pants.  I grabbed a diaper since it was roughly an hour or so before he would be getting in the bathtub anyway.  I sit down on the floor next to him and proceed to explain that he needs to start telling us when he has to pee.  I say this as I’m pulling down his training pants.  He smiles that big, happy John smile and says, “Mommy!  I go pee!”  At which time he pees on my legs!  After the initial shock, I manage to cover him up so it just gets all over the diaper.  There wasn’t much I could say, because he *DID*, in fact, tell me he had to pee……

The tradition on Memorial Day is to attend the Salute to Veterans Parade in downtown Columbia.  The airplanes from the weekend’s airshow fly over the parade route and, usually, the parachute teams jump into five different intersections downtown.  It was again to windy for the teams to jump, but the parade was fun anyway.  We met the Lowerys at the parade and the kids all watched the parade together.

After the parade, it was what would normally be a “typical Sunday” in the Kassel Household (excluding the fact that it was my birthday).  The highlight of the day for me was the following exchange with John.

• Me:  John, it’s my birthday.  Can I have a Happy Birthday Hug?
• John (shaking his head no):  I don’t see cake.  It’s not birthday.

Oh, to be 2 again…..

One of our favorite things to do over Memorial Day weekend is to attend the Salute to Veterans Airshow.

This was John’s first year attending and, oh my goodness, what fun it was!  He LOVED it!  He made it until right about 1 pm before he completely imploded and we had to leave.  We had a great time looking at all the planes and watching the various demonstrations.  The only downside was that it was too windy for either the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” and the Canadian “Skyhawks” parachute teams to jump.  All in all, it was a great time and we’ll be back next year!

We took the kids over to Joe Machens Toyota today because they had a fire truck and bounce house.  Laura spent most of her time in the bounce house, but she did go into the fire truck.

John spent most of his time checking out the fire truck.  He wouldn’t get inside the fire truck, but he was very much fascinated with everything else.  At one point, I walked up to him and he showed me everything the fireman and Andy had shown him.

Today, John figured out how to ride his bike!  He went in circles on the driveway for about an hour!  Go John!

Grandpa Ken and Grandma Marilyn are in town!  I tried to get a good picture of the kids with them, but that would require that the kids sit still for one second.  When the grandparents are in town, the kids are crazy.  Either way, it’s been a good visit!

We’ve had some big storms recently, but between it all you sometimes get the beauty of nature.

The above was a vibrant rainbow that you could see from our back deck.  It’s not as vibrant in the picture, but it was beautiful.  The below was a beautiful shot of the clouds as another storm was rolling in.
