Laura moved up another level in gymnastics to Advanced Beginner. A new class, a new headband, and one excited girl!
A Nice Surprise
John came home from his Cub Scout Den meeting with a tissue paper flower for me. The boys made flowers for their teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week, and John also made one for me. Since John made a total of three flowers and he was afraid that the two he made for his teacher would get smashed, John decided that I could keep two of them and he would give one of them to Mrs. Hanney. I love them (even if he had some help making them from someone named Daddy)!
Cub Scout Campout
John’s Cub Scout Pack had their spring campout this weekend at Hanson Hills Campground outside of Kingdom City, Missouri. The campout was supposed to be two weeks ago, but it was postponed due to rain. Fortunately, we had beautiful weather with only one brief rain shower today. We all had a good time – even Laura who insisted she did not want to go – and John was especially excited to earn another belt loop. He also received a canteen from one of the older Cub Scouts.
The kids played, explored the woods, and rode their bikes all afternoon. They even put on a play for the adults. A highlight of the afternoon was “watching” a rocket launch. Well, we were supposed to see a launch, but the rocket refused to cooperate.
Dinner was fantastic. Rotisserie chicken, pork steaks, and potatoes. Lots and lots of potatoes.
The evening ended with a large bonfire and some time with the other Cub Scouts and their families. It was a great way to end a fun day!
The End of Munch and Read
Today marks another ending, signaling – yet again – that our kids are growing up. Andy and I officially attended our last Munch and Read in Unit A. It has been four years of spending time eating snacks and reading with our kids in Katie Hanney’s classroom.
This Mom is sad. John will continue to have Munch and Read next year, but parents do not attend in Unit B. On May 27, he will officially be a second grader. I simply cannot believe it. A second grader…
iPad
I had to go to a meeting at Ridgeway Elementary today because Laura will have an iPad issued to her as part of Unit C. Technically, Columbia Public Schools issues iPads only to fifth graders and above. Because Laura attends Ridgeway and her classroom is multi-grade, she will receive an iPad next year for use during the school year. As part of the orientation, I had to set up her Apple ID account. As I was doing that, I thought, “How can it be that she is almost old enough to be in fourth grade and part of Unit C?!?” Time flies. It seems like yesterday that she started Kindergarten and Unit A…
Tons of Trucks!
While I was at the gym, Andy took the kids and Alia to Tons of Trucks, an event put on by the City of Columbia. Trucks of all shapes and sizes are on display for kids to admire, wander around, climb on, and sit in. It is quite a popular event and was very busy. Andy mentioned that he thought he saw everyone we know that has younger kids. Despite Laura’s protests about how boring it would be, even she enjoyed herself. The highlights included the Weinermobile, fire truck, armored vehicle, and the giant snow plow. It doesn’t get any better than that!
