The kids’ daycare is officially in the middle of their annual two-week vacation, so mornings will be much more lazy around here for a while. The kids spent a while hanging out on our bed this morning as I was getting ready.
Kindle!
My birthday present from Andy came in today – a shiny, new Kindle!
I am so very excited! I have already gotten about 13 books and I only paid $30 for all of them and that’s pretty good considering that two of those were $20. I’ve messed with it a little bit and really like what I see. I’ll be taking it outside in the bright sun tomorrow to see how it reads and I’m looking forward to testing that 2-month battery life. Hardback books (I really don’t much like paperbacks as they fall apart so easily) have gotten ridiculously expensive. One of the books I bought today was listed for $26.95 for the hardback edition and the Kindle edition was $9.99. A bonus on top of the much cheaper price is that I now don’t have to find room for that book on my bookshelf. It boggles my mind that the Kindle can hold 3,500 books. Hello Reading, I’ve missed you! Can’t wait to get acquainted with you again, my friend!
Thirteen-Year Cicadas
Awww……the sweet sound of the Thirteen-year Cicadas, or NOT! These bugs are driving me crazy. Being outside during the daytime is just painful to the ears. No more walks on the Capen Park trail after work until they are gone. I realize they will only be around for a few weeks, but the noise is bad. The cicadas also fly and land on everything. I’ve taken to exercising outdoors at 4:30 am because cicadas tend to settle down and quiet down during he nighttime hours. You can still here a few of them, but it’s not the steady noise that you get throughout the day. Yesterday, the kids went to the sprayground with daycare and only stayed about 20 minutes. The cicadas were scaring Laura and Cheryl said that they were flying around so much that all the kids were very uncomfortable. I’m looking forward to the end of this year’s cicadas so we can get back to normal!

Busy Saturday Morning
This morning was very busy for us. We started out at Bob Evans for yummy breakfast followed by Kid’s Workshop at Home Depot. This month the kids built Valet Organizers for Daddy. Laura went first while Mommy took pictures.
John went second after very patiently waiting.
After Home Depot, we went to a Car Show! John was so excited over all the cars, trucks, and motorcycles. He walked around with Daddy and just took it all in. John made a special effort to show me this car. I’m guessing he was mostly interested in the very unique color, which he called purple. It was somewhere between pink and purple.
While Daddy and John were walking around the car show, Laura was merrily playing in the absolutely awesome pirate bounce house. She quickly became distracted when “Mr. Balloonable” arrived. He makes very awesome and unique balloon animals. He made a doll for Laura and a bulging-eyed dinosaur for John. The kids LOVE their balloon animals!
All in all, a very fun morning despite the heat. 🙂
Serenade
Ryleigh, Ryleigh
Laura requested her “Ryleigh Pajamas” tonight.
Ryleigh is Laura’s cousin. In June/July 2009, we took a trip to South Carolina and stopped in to see the BlumeNation in Greenville. As Ryleigh had outgrown this nightgown, it was passed to Laura. Well, she LOVES it. When the day comes that she can no longer wear it, we will pass it to Cousin Addyson. Tonight, though, as Laura was putting on her “Ryleigh PJs”, she started to sing a song. It went something like:
- Ryleigh, Ryleigh! Ryleigh, Ryleigh!
- Pajamas! Pajamas!
- Ryleigh, Ryleigh! Ryleigh, Ryleigh!
- I love my Cousin Ryleigh!
It was too cute!
