Every day at daycare Laura works on her “words.” Cheryl made flash cards for Laura and continually adds to them. Laura brings them home every day and we work on them with her here. Andy was working with her tonight. While Laura was less than enthusiastic to work on them, she did at least read a few. 🙂
When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking
Every month I get together with a group of Moms from our church. It’s a time of food and fellowship. We eat, exchange stories, and have a short devotional. I wasn’t sure that I would really enjoy this. After the first one, I very much look forward to it. Tonight, we were given a poem called “When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking” in honor of Mother’s Day. I can say that now that I’m a Mom this poem holds a much more special meaning. You truly realize the things that you noticed in your own mother and the things you do just like her. I appreciate everything this poem says. Today, I just wanted to say thanks to my Great Mom for all those things you did when you thought *I* wasn’t looking.
Laura’s New School!
We went to a parent meeting at Ridgeway Elementary School tonight. It was a great meeting and I’m very much looking forward to Laura going there. She will be in a “Unit A” classroom, which will be a combination of approximately 11 kindergarteners and 11 first graders. It was even more impressive to see several parents there that have had multiple children that attended Ridgeway. All of them said what an awesome experience this school is. The meeting tonight was more of an orientation to the school. There will be an open house in August and then a curriculum meeting in September. Next week, Laura gets to go to “choice time” to just play in one of the classrooms, a sort of “get to know your surroundings” visit. It should be a fun time!
Headache
Well, this morning I woke up with a nasty headache. Spent the morning just trying to relax and getting rid of the headache. It finally eased around 2 or so. Here’s hoping I don’t wake up with another one tomorrow!
The ARC
We took the kids swimming at the ARC (Activity and Recreation Center) today. We had free passes for the four of us and it’s a rainy day so we figured it would be a good activity. The kids had a blast and what a fun time! Laura is really swimming well! She’s not afraid at all! We are both thrilled about that! John was just running around and playing in the water. I can’t wait to see him really start swimming!

Dollhouse!
I don’t usually go to garage sales. This morning though a subdivision a few miles from us was having their annual garage sale. I figured I would go over there and see if I could get some summer play clothes for the kids. I did get some clothes for the kids, but the big find was a dollhouse and all its accessories for Laura!
She is VERY excited about it and loves it! She even talked to the two older girls from the family that we bought it from. The girls’ mother told me that the dollhouse and accessories originally cost $400. I would never pay that, but I was happy to pay the $50 to put that smile on Laura’s face!
My Daughter is SUCH a Girl!
So, tonight, there was a dead bug in the kids’ bathroom. Laura, who was naked because she was about to get in the tub, came on a full run with arms flailing out of the bathroom screaming, “Dead Bug! Dead Bug! Dead Bug!” So being “Brave Mommy,” I went into the bathroom and picked up the dead bug and flushed it down the toilet. Laura returns to the bathroom, but refuses to sit on the toilet to go potty until AFTER the dead bug is GONE, GONE, GONE! Girls!
