Laura’s Unit A class made a book again this year.  This year’s theme is “I Want To Be”.  Laura wrote, “When I grow up, I want to be a nurse.  A nurse takes care of patients while they are waiting for the doctor.  A nurse helps make the aches better.  I want to be a nurse because I want to help people get better so they can be with their family again.”  As a side note, Laura’s writing this year is so amazingly better than last year’s book.  I was stunned at the difference.  I so hope that John gets the opportunity to make a class book next year!

John has developed into quite the little reader.  He’s memorizing the words and “reading” to himself.

I found a recipe for Spicy Guinness Mustard and decided to finally give it a try.  T-minus two days and counting until I blend it together.  If you are interested in giving it a try, please let me know.  The recipe makes 3 1/2 cups!  It’s more than we can eat!

On days like today when tragedy strikes in our world, I want nothing more than to hug my family and to see my kids interacting.  Tonight, Big Sister read “Dog In Charge” to Little Brother.  It made the heart feel a little better…

Laura earned her last two Daisy Scout petals at her meeting today.  The girls listened to the story of Rosie and then discussed real life examples of how to make the world a better place.  Since the “Clean Up Columbia” activity was the day before, the girls were filled with great examples.

A little over halfway through the meeting, the Brownies came into the room and taught the girls the “Brownie Smile Song.”  I was amused to realize that I still remembered it *without* reading the words.  Needless to say, Laura is very excited about bridging to Brownies especially after learning a “real, live Brownie song!”  The girls wrapped up the meeting by listening to the story of Clover and discussing how to use resources wisely.  One way to do that is to recycle.  As an activity, the girls used leftover crafting supplies from this past year to create new and fun items.  Laura made binoculars out of pipe cleaners and toilet paper.  She is going to use them to help her spot trash around our neighborhood and help to clean up our little corner of the world.  Love that girl!

Laura’s Daisy Scout Troop participated in the annual “Clean Up Columbia” campaign.  They are working on the rose-colored petal that means “making the world a better place.”  The troop, along with parents and siblings, helped to pick up trash from Indian Hills Park.  The girls worked very hard and were responsible for picking up several bags of trash and two tires.  After all the hard work, the girls spent some time on the playgrounds enjoying the beautiful weather.  Way to go Daisies!  You did a great job!

We have a super cute houseguest for the weekend.  Pip is visiting us while the Hendersons are away in Branson.  The kids are in love!  Newman, on the other hand…
