One of Laura’s Vacation Bible School Guides is Amelia. Laura LOVES Amelia and was very excited to find out that she was a Guide for Laura’s class. Every time I turned around, Laura would be next to Amelia talking her ear off. I think we might have to hire Amelia to babysit now and then!
Goodwill
Today, I stopped by Goodwill to look at shorts. I didn’t find any shorts, but I did spend a few minutes going through the dresses. I came across a semi-formal that I decided to try on. It fits well and looks great! It wasn’t tagged, but I decided to purchase it anyway. Generally, these types of dresses are $20 or more at Goodwill. I guess I got lucky! No tag means $4.50. Now, to get it dry cleaned before we leave next Tuesday…
Vacation Bible School
According to John, Day Two at Vacation Bible School (VBS) was even more fun than Day One. The evening began with a Macaroni and Cheese dinner at church. When they were done eating, the kids decided to “ride the rollercoaster” in the photo booth. KFW Photography managed to capture this little moment…
The kids really enjoyed Day Two. They both came home with Amish Friendship Bread starters and Laura could not stop talking about all the fun she had. After we got home, John was singing some of the VBS songs while he was in the bathtub. He is very excited about tomorrow evening and he was quite disappointed when he realized that there are only three nights left. Both kids said that they will be sad when Thursday night comes to a close. I *think* our kids might be liking this whole VBS thing. 🙂
Father’s Day!
It was a low-key Father’s Day after our fun at the Dothages yesterday. It began with Andy making a tasty breakfast of pancakes. Laura really wanted to make him breakfast, but their definitions of breakfast differ significantly. After breakfast, we relaxed and just didn’t do much. Andy did get to cross one thing off his “list.” He took the kids to the shooting range at Finger Lakes to try out his new gun. Both kids thought that was very cool with John declaring it “awesome neat!” I have a “photo” of Laura shooting too, but John took it and he seemingly hasn’t figured out the concept of actually making sure that you can see everyone in a photo…
When they returned from the shooting range, it was off to church for the start of the “Everywhere Fun Fair” Vacation Bible School (VBS) at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. This was the first experience with VBS for the kids! John was hesitant at first, but it didn’t take him long to discover that this thing called VBS might be fun! They got to do lots of different activities and both Laura and John talked the whole way home about what they did.
Once home, I cornered Andy and the kids for a Father’s Day photo. Hey, I needed at least one of all three of them from the day! Happy Father’s Day to my husband! There is nothing better than watching you with our kids. You are a great Daddy and I love you!
Fun with Friends!
Because it is supposed to rain on Father’s Day, we decided to celebrate a bit early by heading out for an afternoon of swimming at the “Dothage Fun Complex.” We spent the afternoon swimming, chatting, snacking, and relaxing. The kids, and adults, had a great time!
Laura discovered that she could float all over the pool wearing a life vest. She can swim fairly well, but the water was up to her nose so the vest was a good compromise for her.
Andy got in on the relaxing action with a beer and a raft.
John can’t swim as well as Laura yet, so he mostly hung out on rafts or by the side of the pool. I suspect it won’t be long before he decides to put on the life vest and go for it!
Tamara and Kyler arrived later in the afternoon and Kyler jumped right in. We got about thirty minutes more of swimming time before we had to drag the kids out of the pool because the rain arrived. All the “kids” were disappointed, but we had to go inside.
We spent the remainder of the day eating great food, playing for the kids, and talking for the adults. I think it might have been the perfect “Father’s Day.” Thanks to Andrea and Kathryn for having us out! We very much appreciated it!
Father’s Day Gift from John
To say that John was disappointed that I picked him up from preschool today instead of Andy would be an understatement. He wanted Daddy to pick him up so that he could give him his Father’s Day gift. John had to wait until Andy got home from some consulting work to give it to him. Andy (and me too) loves it! What a unique idea!
New Art
While going through all of Laura’s recent art projects this evening, she gave me permission to take this piece for my office at work. I think this one might be favorite of all of her artwork. She made it at EEE Summer Academy and she is so proud of it. I have to say that I *love* it and I am looking forward to adding it to my collection at work. This is her rendition of Claude Monet’s “Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies.”
