Andy took this week off with one thing in mind… Clean the carpets! He has completed the family room, the office, and the stairs along with the living room. Tomorrow, he tackles the dining room. He should be completely done on Thursday! I am looking forward to seeing the clean carpets!
Match the Weather
Exhaustion…
We have two, *very* exhausted kids. Let’s examine why…
- A Mizzou Men’s Basketball Game for John on Friday night
- A trip to the Dothage Fun Complex to play with Kyler and Kathryn for Laura on Friday night
- Outside play time with some neighborhood kids on Saturday
- The Camp MUDD reunion at the Activity and Recreation Center, which included two hours of swimming, on Saturday night
- Brownie Girl Scout meeting for Laura on Sunday afternoon
- A Mizzou Women’s Basketball Game for John on Sunday afternoon
Laura had a crying meltdown at the end of her Brownie Girl Scout meeting that resulted in her wailing the entire way home and then some. I truly contemplated taking a picture of Laura wailing, but decided better of it. She laid down on the couch to rest for a while and her mood was decidedly better around dinner time. John fell asleep on the way home from the Women’s Basketball Game and did not wake up when Andy carried him inside. He slept on our bed for about an hour. I tried to wake up John for dinner and had a small amount of success, but it didn’t last long. About five minutes into dinner, Andy looked over to find him sound asleep in a living room chair.
It is a fast bath and early bed for the kids tonight! I hope they can get enough sleep to catch up a little bit anyway…
Beautiful Saturday!
It was a gorgeous Saturday with perfect weather! After a busy morning of errands and Mizzou football, we spent the afternoon outside. Laura and John played with neighborhood kids and rode their bikes while Andy and I relaxed with a glass of wine (or two). I managed to get this picture of Laura. While she was not particularly happy with laying in the leaves, she gave me the picture smile.
About 5:30, we headed inside to get ready for our evening out. The kids attended the Camp MUDD Reunion at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC). Laura was extremely excited to see all the counselors from the summer and to have the run of the ARC, including swimming in their great pool. John was excited as well because he will attend Camp MUDD next summer and he got to go to the reunion because he is the sibling of a camper. We dropped the kids off at the ARC right at 7 pm and got them registered. Then, it was off to dinner for Andy and I at Bleu Restaurant and Wine Bar! It was a great dinner that filled the time the kids were at the reunion quite nicely.
We picked up the kids a little after 10 pm. They both came out of the locker rooms with wet hair as the pool had just closed for the night. Both kids had a great time and were chatty most of the way home. John even said, “I can’t wait to go to Camp MUDD next summer. It will be so fun!” Then, he got really quiet. I guess the reunion wore him out…
Divide and Conquer Fun!
It was “divide and conquer” fun night for the Kassels. Andy took John to the Mizzou vs. Southeastern Louisiana Men’s Basketball Game while I took Laura to the Dothage Fun Complex for a visit with Andrea, Kathryn, Tamara, and Kyler. About 6:40, Andy texted me this picture of John.
John is obviously excited to see the game and watch Earnest Ross play. For those who don’t know, we met Earnest last year when three of the Mizzou Women’s Basketball players lived next door. Earnest was dating one of the girls and he is a great guy. John really looked up to him. John wouldn’t even let Andy throw the souvenir cup away from their game snack because Earnest was on the cup.
I spent the evening hanging with great friends, Andrea and Tamara, while Laura, Kathryn, and Kyler “played.” I put “played” in quotes because all three kids were tired and, um…, grumpy. AT. BEST. But, I got to see Andrea and Tamara and that made up for grumpy kids! While there, Laura discovered Kathryn’s Lite Brite and decided that she is asking Santa for one. Lite Brites don’t look quite the same as they did when I had one, but I am so getting her one. How cool is it that I had one of those as a kid and my daughter now wants one?!?
All in all, it was a great Friday night that ended with Andy and I drinking a glass of wine and watching an episode of “Criminal Minds.” It was a very nice ending to a very long week.
My favorite kind…
Book IT!
We went to Pizza Hut tonight to use the Book IT! certificates that the kids earned for reading in October. It was John’s very first Book IT! ever and he chose a personal pan pepperoni pizza. Laura chose a cheese pizza. The entire dinner cost a whopping $12 with tip. I love these Book IT! certificates… The Book IT! program gets both kids reading a lot, and we get a cheap dinner out! Win-win!
