Laura’s Painting Basket
This is Laura’s new painting basket. She is now ready to finish her artwork for the Brownie Painting badge. To say she was excited when she saw the basket would be an understatement. She squealed. Literally.
Party Invitations
Laura’s and John’s birthday party invitations are completed and ready to mail! They were both so excited to help get them ready. The three-week countdown has begun!
Birthday Cakes!
Laura and John spent about 30 minutes checking carefully over each cake option at Hy-Vee. Laura finally chose a Despicable Me 2 cake and John settled on a Super Mario cake. Usually, Laura wants a white cake and John wants a chocolate cake. This year, they both wanted chocolate cake, so that is what they got. The birthday cakes are ordered and ready for their July 12 party at Lake of the Woods Swimming Pool!
Fun at the Pool
Because we had one more weekday of vacation, we spent the afternoon at Lake of the Woods pool. We had fun playing in the water and enjoying the afternoon.
It took some encouragement to get John to jump in the water… Okay, so not really. All I had to say was, “John, jump in the water for me so I can take a picture.”
It was a fun afternoon at the pool that led to the decision by the kids to hold their birthday party there. When we returned home, I called and reserved two tables for the afternoon of July 12. Tomorrow it will be a trip to Hy-Vee to pick out and order cakes and then to Party City or Target to buy birthday invitations…
The End of Vacation Bible School
Tonight was the last night of Vacation Bible School. All the kids had such a great time at the Wilderness Escape. When I asked Laura and John what their favorite parts were, there were simply too many options to list and it changed every night. I call that a success!
MU Math Study
Over the past year, John has been participating in the MU Math Study. The goal of the study is to better understand how children learn mathematics and why some students have difficulties with this learning. As part of the study, the “Math Van” came to our house today for an individual assessment. John was very excited and asked every 15 minutes if the van was here yet. When the van arrived, he was ready to get started!
The assessment was supposed to take 60 to 90 minutes, but John was done in about 45 minutes. He received some prizes like a book, markers, and bookmark. Also, John received a $20 gift card to Target for his “trouble.” John really enjoyed his time in the Math Van and he is absolutely excited to get to use his gift card!
