Today, school days really returned to normal with the kids taking the bus in the morning and the afternoon. Unfortunately, I only got a picture of the kids waiting on the bus as their bus driver had to talk to me about a potential route change.
First Day of School
It’s the first day of school! Laura is in third grade and John is in first grade. Both kids are pretty excited to go back and John is happy that he will be one of the “big kids” in his unit. Before we left the house, I took the obligatory “first day” pictures. John did not want to smile at first, but the threat of tickling got a smile out of him pretty quickly.
On the other hand, Laura loves to pose for me…
Like all the other first days of school, we took the kids to school. We got there just in time to take a few pictures in front of the school before the rain started.
Both kids had a good first day of school. Laura was chosen to be a Lunch Buddy for the Unit A kids. That means that she got to help them go through the line on the first day to teach them how the lunch process works. Then, she found out that she was also selected to be a Bus Buddy. It will be her responsibility to help the Unit A kids get on the proper bus in the afternoons. She declared her first day “Great!” John was a bit more subdued about his first day, but he did say that recess was great and that he got to sit with Wil, Ethan, and Forrest all day. Not a bad start to the school year!
Dishwasher!
New Garbage Disposal
While working on cleaning and organizing under the kitchen sink, Laura and I discovered a leak coming from the garbage disposal. I sent Laura to get Andy after I realized just how big of a leak it was. We showed it to him and then put a bowl underneath it to catch the water so that we could at least use the kitchen sink. As you probably already guessed, Andy’s plans for today changed to include buying and installing a new garbage disposal. It took about two hours, but we are back in business with no water leaks. Despite having to replace another kitchen “appliance,” I have to admit that I do love the new garbage disposal!
Planning and Preparation
Today was a day of planning and preparation. Laura has three Brownie badges to do on her own, so we spent most of the morning and part of the afternoon planning and preparing for the activities to complete the badges. We took trips to Michaels, Home Depot, and Target to get all the supplies that we need to begin. The activities start tomorrow! First up, we clean and organize underneath our kitchen sink and, then, I get to teach her to cross stitch.
