This week is Teacher Appreciation Week at Ridgeway Elementary. Each day, the kids have done something different for their teachers. Tomorrow is “give your teacher a card” day. Laura and John decided to make their own. They are hard at work making great cards for Mrs. Sandstedt (Laura) and Mrs. Hanney (John)!
At one of John’s recent Cub Scout Den meetings, the boys planted apple seeds. John’s seed actually sprouted and is doing quite well! We are just a couple of weeks away from needing to transplant it. Who knew?!? Usually, these types of things never actually grow…
It was a busy night of baseball! First, John’s team had pictures at Cosmo Park. John did a great job and smiled big for the camera.
While his team was having their group picture taken, I snapped a few pictures as well.
After pictures, we went straight to Albert-Oakland Park for the first game of the season. John was a bit nervous, but he did very well. He did a great job paying attention while in the field. He played at pitcher, short stop, and center field. He was most excited to get to bat. John had two opportunities and he went 2-for-2.
John was also very happy to score two runs for his team! I have to say that I knew John could run pretty fast, but I was surprised at just how fast he was when running the bases. All in all, it was a successful first game. The next game is scheduled for Friday, but we shall see. It is supposed to rain/storm for the next five days…
Laura moved up another level in gymnastics to Advanced Beginner. A new class, a new headband, and one excited girl!
John came home from his Cub Scout Den meeting with a tissue paper flower for me. The boys made flowers for their teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week, and John also made one for me. Since John made a total of three flowers and he was afraid that the two he made for his teacher would get smashed, John decided that I could keep two of them and he would give one of them to Mrs. Hanney. I love them (even if he had some help making them from someone named Daddy)!
John’s Cub Scout Pack had their spring campout this weekend at Hanson Hills Campground outside of Kingdom City, Missouri. The campout was supposed to be two weeks ago, but it was postponed due to rain. Fortunately, we had beautiful weather with only one brief rain shower today. We all had a good time – even Laura who insisted she did not want to go – and John was especially excited to earn another belt loop. He also received a canteen from one of the older Cub Scouts.
The kids played, explored the woods, and rode their bikes all afternoon. They even put on a play for the adults. A highlight of the afternoon was “watching” a rocket launch. Well, we were supposed to see a launch, but the rocket refused to cooperate.
Dinner was fantastic. Rotisserie chicken, pork steaks, and potatoes. Lots and lots of potatoes.
The evening ended with a large bonfire and some time with the other Cub Scouts and their families. It was a great way to end a fun day!
Today marks another ending, signaling – yet again – that our kids are growing up. Andy and I officially attended our last Munch and Read in Unit A. It has been four years of spending time eating snacks and reading with our kids in Katie Hanney’s classroom.
This Mom is sad. John will continue to have Munch and Read next year, but parents do not attend in Unit B. On May 27, he will officially be a second grader. I simply cannot believe it. A second grader…
