Well, one of the online products that I support went to hell today. It had been having issues for a few days, but it had gotten so bad that today was it. All of the management team was out of the office when I got yet another call, so I made the decision to take it offline. I was fully aware of the telephone calls that were going to pour in as a result. I was also fully aware that the decision was going to be on me, but it had to be done. I did send an instant message to my Director when she became available to let her know the situation. Then, I spent the rest of the morning in a “war room” of sorts with the Information Technology staff. Everyone in the office pulled together, including our receptionists who took call after call so that the rest of us could put our heads together and get things fixed. When my Director returned to the office, I met with her to fill her in. She thanked me for stepping up and doing what was necessary to get the job done. I have to admit that I felt very empowered and, despite the situation, I had a great day. It was a chance to do what needed to be done and not be questioned repeatedly for it. What a change! Maybe my office is finally, finally turning around.
American Girl
Say what you want about the cost of American Girl products, but they really do some things right. Their entire line of books is just amazing. Today, Laura checked out this book from the school library. I just glanced through it and I am thoroughly impressed at the topics – how to say you are sorry after a fight with a friend, how to deal with on-again/off-again friends, and how to deal with being left out. Just impressive and really great advice that the kiddo can really learn from.

MS 150
If you get a chance, wish this guy well today as he leaves for Illinois to ride in the MS 150. He does this each year for our wonderful friend, Jessica Hendrickson, who deals with MS everyday with strength and grace. Best of luck to you, Andy! The kids and I are very proud of you and love you very much. Ride safe!
