The Ridgeway Elementary Choir sang the National Anthem at the MU Women’s Volleyball match today. While John repeatedly told us that he was *not* nervous, I think he was just a little. He looked a little scared while waiting to go onto the floor to sing. He did well though and I am proud of him for it.
Halloween!
My second favorite holiday of the year! Our Halloween Bash was complete with the three f’s – FUN, food, and friends! We had another large pack of kids this year and we all had a great time, adults included! Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the evening with us. The night went way too fast! Now, on to pictures!!!
This is the beginnings of the Great Pumpkin Ale from Flat Branch that, again, did not disappoint. Fantastic beer that makes Halloween even more fun!
Everyone had a great time, but I think maybe the adults surpassed the kids this year! Jeremy – did I really see you wearing one of my skirts as a dress?!?
As always, we “force” the kids to pose for pictures in front of our big spider web…
…but, then, we load up on the trailer for trick-or-treating! I sometimes wonder just what everyone thinks when our pack of kids coming running up to their door for candy.
I must say that riding in the trailer and never having to move while the kids go from house to house is the “trick-or-treat life!” I think we got this thing down… Because of the rush to get out of the house, us ladies had to wait for our traditional picture in front of the spider web until after we got back.
After being out for about an hour in the surprising warm weather, we headed back to the house to enjoy the rest of the evening. The adults hung out and finished off all the pumpkin beer while the kids watched It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
It was another great Halloween with great friends, food, and dead growlers. On to next year!
Chili!
Jack-O-Lanterns!
It is Jack-O-Lantern Night in the Kassel Household! First, the kids draw the faces that they want on paper so that Daddy has something to copy. John had a difficult time choosing this year, but eventually he settled on a three-eyed pumpkin.
Laura knew exactly what she wanted – a one-eyed pumpkin with a crescent nose and one tooth.
Second, Andy cuts the tops off the pumpkins and, then, Laura and I scoop the guts! Finally, one of my kids likes to scoop the guts. It is one of my favorite parts and I feel all accomplished now that the tradition has been passed on…
Third, Andy uses his artistic skills to transfer the kids’ pumpkin face designs to the actual pumpkins.
Fourth, Andy carves until the pumpkins are satisfactory to all. This is actually never in question because Andy is an excellent Jack-O-Lantern carver. John kept saying that he wished he could carve a pumpkin as well as his Daddy. Andy assured John that some day, after 40 years of practice, John would be just as good as him.
Fifth, the obligatory picture of the kids holding their Jack-O-Lanterns is taken.
Lastly, the finished Jack-O-Lanterns are placed in their new home on our front porch for all to enjoy.
