This is not what is left of my bike, but what is left of a friend’s bike. Lauren hit a car today – as in the car turned in front of her and there was nothing she could do. She woke up in the ambulance and does not remember anything of the accident. Fortunately, she has no bleeding on the brain and no concussion symptoms. She only needed stitches on her chin, but she is going to be very sore and bruised for a while. If you ride and don’t wear a helmet, this picture should be your wake-up call. My heart hurts to think what would have happened if Lauren wasn’t wearing a helmet. I love you, L.P. I am so, so, so thankful that you are okay and even more thankful to call you my friend. You can always replace a bike, but you can’t replace those crazy, nutty people with whom you are lucky enough to ride.
Sad
It was a sad day for all of us. The girls are officially gone. Josefina and Topanga left about 9 am.
Some of us took it harder than others. While Laura and I were teary eyed, both Andy and John cried. Part of our sadness is also that it felt like we were saying a final goodbye to Tim and Renee because they and the cats are moving to Germany. We spent the evening doing things to distract us. I worked in the kitchen; Laura played on her phone; and the boys played video games together. As Andy told John, “It is okay to be sad and miss the cats. It will just take time.”
Last Day
It is our last day with Josefina and Topanga because they go home with Tim and Renee tomorrow.
How has eight months passed already? All of us will miss these two a lot! I will miss kitty snuggles and finding one or both of them sitting in the strange places.
Most of all, the house will feel empty without them around. We were definitely glad to have them as a part of our family even if it was for just a short time.
