Singing and Dancing
For a while now, I will play a Sugarland song, “Stuck Like Glue”, from the Internet. Laura loves that particular song and always asks for that one. We will often sing and dance while it’s playing. She’ll sit on the counter and dance and I’ll dance around the kitchen.
When she asked for that song again tonight, it occurred to me that I wonder if she’ll remember these goofy times with Mom when she’s my age. Now and then, I’m struck by the goofy things that she and I will do or will talk about. I find myself thinking, “I hope some day she’ll look back and think about me and these things and maybe do the same things with her children.” Special moments with Mom.
Media Center
Laura checked out her first books from the Ridgeway Elementary Media Center today. She was so excited to bring her books home and show us. She also talked about the whole process of checking out books, including the “space savers” that the kids use to mark what shelf they took a book from. Her media center day is every Tuesday, so she will return the books next Tuesday and come home with new ones.
The First Tooth!
Laura lost her first tooth last night! She was showing Daddy how loose it was and she managed to break it loose to the point that it was laying flat. So, Mommy pulled it the rest of the way out.
Look at that great smile!
The Tooth Fairy came to visit Laura and *because* the Tooth Fairy was completely unprepared and didn’t have a dollar bill, Laura got $5! She was very excited to put that $5 in her piggy bank.
Kindergarten Backpack
Today, Laura received a gift from St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church at a ceremony at church. Every year, the chuch recognizes the Kindergartners and the next step in their education. The Kindergartners are introduced to the congregation and a small ceremony ending with a blessing is done during the early service. Laura and I were able to attend the practice yesterday (Thanks B and Rachel for watching John!), but I was unable to take her to the service today because John is running a slight fever. When I told Laura that she wouldn’t be able to go today, she was crushed. REALLY crushed. Fortunately, Uncle Jeremy came to the rescue and took her to the service this morning! I very much appreciate it and Laura is VERY happy to have her new backpack!
Sigma Chi Grand Praetor Training
Andy left for Sigma Chi International Headquarters in Evanston, IL, yesterday morning to attend Grand Praetor Training.
He was elected Grand Praetor for the Northern Missouri Province at Sigma Chi Grand Chapter in June. Unfortunately, he’s had a trial by fire due to an issue with the University of Missouri Sigma Chi Chapter, but hopefully this training will help the next time he has to address issues. He will be in training all day today and return home tomorrow. We miss him, but we know he’s having a great time!
Weight
For a while now, I haven’t been tucking in shirts unless they are covered by another layer of clothing. Also, I rarely wear a belt. I simply weighed too much and I looked terrible with shirts tucked in. I would wear shirts untucked in the hopes that I would appear slightly slimmer. Well, times are a-changin’! This morning for the first time in a LONG time, I tucked in my shirt and I wore a belt! The jeans I’m wearing are also loose! No fighting to pull them up and get them buttoned. Mr. Pounds, I am so glad to see you slowly melting away! I can’t say I’m sorry to see you go.
