Just before bedtime, I wandered into the kids’ room to discover Laura singing Mary Had a Little Lamb as loudly as she possibly can while John happily sleeps. He really can sleep through anything.

Tonka Truck Races
The kids discovered a fun, new pastime – Tonka truck races down our backyard hill. John was hanging out with Andy and I on our back porch when Andy suggested that he bring his Tonka trucks outside and push them down the hill. After one good shove down the hill and a crash at the end, John was hooked.
Laura happened to notice that we were having fun without her and she suddenly appeared on the back porch to join in.
Both kids got a huge kick out of watching the trucks start slowly on the hill at first and then pick up speed as they raced down the hill. I think they both liked the crashes the most. Fun times!
Decoration
I wandered upstairs to discover that our Guinness glasses have been decorated with pumpkin beads. When I asked Laura about it, she said, “I didn’t do that Mom.” So, I then asked John about it, and he said, “I help you decorate Mom! Daddy’s favorite beer glasses need pumpkins!” I learn something new every day.
Date Night!
Because Grandma Marilyn and Grandpa Ken were in town, Andy and I took advantage and had date night. We had a fantastic dinner and then went to see a play. Dinner was at Glenn’s Cafe in the Frederick Hotel in Boonville, MO. It was amazing food and wine. After dinner, it was off to historic Arrow Rock, MO, to see “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Lyceum Theatre. The play was excellent and extremely well acted. It was a great date night and something that was long overdue!
Dad’s Project
Since Dad is in town this week to help watch John, he decided to refinish our table top. It *really* needed it, and Andy and I just haven’t had time to do it. Plus, it gives Dad something to do and John has been hanging out with him a bit as he works on the table top. It’s looking great so far and we should be able to put it back on the table either tomorrow or Saturday.
And the Training Wheels Come Off!
It was a big night as Andy removed the training wheels from Laura’s bike!
It was stressful and she was scared, but she really did much better than Andy and I thought she would do. The important thing is for her to learn to *not* be distracted and pay attention to what is in front of her. By the end of the short ride, she was doing pretty well. She wasn’t going completely straight, but she was much closer. She also knows that Daddy isn’t going to let her go (well, yet anyway). We’ll save that juicy little tidbit of information for later.
