As it was a beautiful, sunny afternoon, Laura decided it was time for some sidewalk chalk fun. She is pretty persuasive and managed to convince me to join her. Together, we “prettied up” the walkway in front of our house. About halfway through our decorating, Claire (one of the neighborhood kids) appeared to add some more artwork. We now have quite a beautiful walkway! It was a nice way to spend part of a beautiful, sunny afternoon.

A Day of Sports
It was a day of sporting events! Andy took the kids to see the Mizzou Women’s Basketball Team play the Tennessee Volunteers. IT was the “Black Out” game so all members of the Kassel Family were wearing black!
It was a great game with Mizzou beating the #9 ranked Volunteers! Mizzou played very well and they got to watch Morgan Eye, who also happens to be one of our neighbors, tie the school record (90) for three-pointers in a single season. After the game, Andy took the kids down to see the players and Laura got her picture taken with Morgan. Laura was very excited and told me all about it when she got home.
I stayed home because I was getting the house ready to host some friends for Super Bowl Sunday. Everyone began arriving about 4:30 for an evening of football, food, and drinks. It was a great evening with great friends! Thanks to all who came over to spend the evening with us. We had lots of fun!
Kid’s Workshop, Birthday Party, Shopping, and a Movie, Oh My!
It was a busy, busy Saturday – Kid’s Workshop, Birthday Party, Shopping, and a Movie, Oh My! As you can probably guess, we began the day at Kid’s Workshop at The Home Depot. Today’s project was a valentine card holder. Laura built first. I think the family sometimes gets annoyed with my shutterbug habit. 😉
John followed and he was the picture of concentration. He truly loves swinging a hammer!
After Kid’s Workshop, we did a quick swing through Target and then headed to drop Laura off at a Birthday Tea Party for her friend, Sophie.
While Laura was enjoying the birthday party, Andy and I took John for lunch at McDonald’s and then to the mall to buy an outfit for Ian and Amanda’s wedding. I was nervous about taking him shopping because it would mean that he would have to try on the clothes, but John did fantastically well! The shopping trip was successful and he now has a 4-piece dress outfit with a vest and tie. After picking up Laura from Sophie’s birthday party, I dropped the kids off at Rachel’s house so that Laura, John, and Alia could watch a movie together. Apparently, watching a movie from the confines of a box is the coolest thing ever!
The rest of Saturday was spent relaxing. The kids were in bed on time and Andy and I just relaxed. Exactly what we needed after a crazy busy Saturday!
Shit Happens…
Sometimes shit happens. When it does, it sucks. I talked to a very dear, fantastic friend tonight who has been there for me more times than I can count. I’ve known her since college…nearly 20 years. Tonight, my heart hurts for her. Her next few months will not be an easy path, and I *hate* that for her. She doesn’t deserve it. She’s loving, fun, supportive, and caring. Everything you ever want in a friend and all I can do is be there for her. I told her to call me at 3 am if she needed it. Come stay here if she needs it. Whatever she needs. We can’t always be there for the small stuff, but we *always* show up for the big stuff. I just wish that shit didn’t have to happen to her. Life can really suck sometimes.
New Toys
After a great dinner at Romano’s Macaroni Grill, we stopped by Michael’s because we needed to get a birthday present for one of Laura’s friends. We figured that we could get King and Queen figurines for John’s castle. We bought those, but also walked out with a Chimera. John thinks it’s the coolest thing ever! It’s the “best” thing for his dragon, because, apparently, his dragon needed a friend.
We also picked up another photo box for Laura, because they make the *best* shoe boxes for Lauren. Laura picked out the black one for the newest addition to Lauren’s “closet.” Upon our arrival at home, I added it to the American Girl doll shelf. It was then that I realized that Lauren will soon have more clothes than Laura! She *already* has more shoes…
