A forgotten day doesn’t happen often for me. These are the days that I never take my camera out of my purse. It’s just a regular day of life: work, grocery store, pick up John from daycare, home, drinks, and dinner. Jeremy came over for dinner, but that was our most noteworthy event for the day. Sometimes, the forgotten days are just what I need.
Another First
It is the first time that John does homework! He is practicing writing the letter “I” and working on site words that begin with “W.”
I am aware that when John is a teenager he will think I was crazy for taking this picture. However, maybe when he is an adult, he’ll appreciate it… I can dream, right?
Mismatched Day!
Ridgeway Spirit Week!
It’s Ridgeway Elementary Spirit Week! Each day, the kids get to do something different. First up, is Mismatched Day. The kids can wear mismatched clothes to school. Laura is contemplating what to wear tomorrow. We will see what she decides! Every day for the rest of the week is something different and it all culminates on Saturday with FunDay. Laura is excited and ready!
Old Friends!
One of my “bestest” college friends and her husband came to visit us this weekend. Carol and Shawn arrived late yesterday evening. Carol and Shawn are going through a tough time right now and I was hoping this weekend would provide them both with a little peace of mind. Give them a chance to relax, talk, and leave everything else at home. This morning, Andy and Shawn drove to Bolivar, MO, to pick up a rifle that Andy won. While the men were gone, Carol and I talked and then took the kids to lunch at Olive Garden. We had a nice afternoon talking and listening and just picking up where we left off. Sometimes, it’s all you need. Carol and I don’t see each other very often, but we are both there for each other whenever we need it. It’s what you do for friends. It’s hard to believe that we have been friends for twenty years now… Seems like just yesterday that I met her through our sorority. Once the men returned to Columbia, we all talked some more, drank some wine, and ate some good food. We spent the evening watching a movie and then headed to bed. Daylight Savings Time, you know… We all needed as much sleep as possible to deal with the time change! 🙂 All in all, it was a nice, relaxing day, which is something that we all needed.
Parent-Teacher-Student Conference
We had Laura’s second trimester Parent-Teacher-Student conference today after school. We had to reschedule due to snow days last week and then our New Orleans trip. We were happy to find that Laura is doing great! She’s meeting and usually exceeding nearly all of the First Grade expectations. She needs a little work on subtraction math facts, but it’s nothing to be overly concerned about because she knows her addition math facts. We will work with her a bit at home and she should be good to go by the end of the year. Also, we got to see some writing samples and it is amazing how far her writing has come in just a few month’s time. My main concern this trimester was if her regular schoolwork would be affected by her gifted program days. Mrs. Hanney put my mind at ease, saying that EEE has had no negative effect at all and that Laura’s transition from EEE to regular class on EEE days is easy and quick. Overall, it was a great conference. Laura is proud of herself and we are very proud of her too! She’s doing great!
After Dinner Ritual
On nearly every weeknight after dinner, I clean up the kitchen and prepare our lunches for the next day. This includes asking what Andy and Laura want for lunch and then preparing everything that I can. Andy’s usual lunch of choice is a sandwich (roast beef or salami) and all the fixings. Laura varies between sandwiches (usually cheese), homemade lunchables, and pizza lunchables. I try to take leftovers, but sometimes I take a salad or a sandwich. By the time I’m done, our lunches are in the refrigerator waiting to be packed in our lunch boxes the next morning. Speaking of our lunch boxes, those are packed and ready on the counter. A boring ritual, yes, but one that makes my less than awake mornings easier!
