Grandpa Ken was here to watch the kids spend their birthday Toys ‘R’ Us gift cards from him and Grandma Marilyn! John picked out a plane set from the Disney movie “Planes” and Laura picked out the Lego Friends “Rapunzel” set.

Birthday Party Fun!
John was invited to a birthday party for two of his school friends at West Broadway Swim Club today. We went to Target in the morning to pick out presents and it was the first time that John decided what the birthday presents should be – Nerf Super Soakers. Joe and Ben loved them (one of the Super Soakers was opened right away) and John had a great time at the party. Andy also checked out the club and there is a distinct possibility that the Kassels may become members.
And Camp Mudd is Over…
Today, Camp Mudd came to an end. I picked up the kids at noon for the last time this year. While both Laura and John were excited for the campout last night, they were sad that the summer fun was over. Thanks to Camp Mudd and all the counselors for being so fun for both our kiddos this summer! I got a little teary-eyed watching all the kids hug the counselors as they said goodbye. It was another great year for Laura at camp and a great start for John.
The Last Camp Mudd Family Night
It is the last Camp Mudd Family Night of the summer. The final week is known as “Party Week” and includes a party for the campers on the final day/night. As always, Laura and John were happy to sing camp songs and perform skits for us. John actually had a speaking part in his skit this time.
Laura was excited because she was chosen to participate in the special skit by Kara, the Camp Director. She always does a skit on the final night that pranks the counselors. The skit “may or may not” include things that actually happened to or with the counselors.
It was one of the better skit nights of this year. Once the skits were completed, it was a race to leave camp. The counselors wanted to get the big party started for the campers. Laura had a bit of a rough time as we left because she was sad that camp was ending. She cried with two of the counselors, Emily and Simone, for “about thirty seconds” before heading off to have fun with the rest of the campers. I foresee another successful campout coming.

A Nice Surprise
I opened my personal email this evening to discover an email from one of Laura’s Unit Leaders at Twilight Camp. The email included a few photos of Laura enjoying Twilight Camp. It was a great surprise!
