Henry Doorly Zoo – Day Two

We started our second day at the aquarium. While it is not as large as some of the other exhibits, the aquarium still took nearly an hour to see it all. We especially enjoyed the penguins and the shark tank tunnel.

As we walked seven miles today, we saw elephants.

We touched stingrays.

We saw the tiger up close.

Andy and Laura played with a gorilla.

And, we visited the gift shop for a magnet and stuffed animals.

We finished the night eating a tasty dinner at Spaghetti Works. This has been a great trip! It occurred to Andy and me that this might be the last time that Spring Break lines up for the kids. It feels like another stage of parenthood has come to an end.

Henry Doorly Zoo – Day One

We left this morning at 7:30 am to visit the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. It has been 12 years since our last visit, and it was the zoo that Laura has been wanting to revisit for years. I purchased two-day tickets this time around because the zoo is very large!

We arrived a little after noon and began in the Desert Dome.

It was so fun wandering around and observing all the different animals and reptiles. Of course, John had to point out every snake he saw to me…

After the Desert Dome, we ate a quick lunch and then went through the Lied Jungle. We ended our zoo day at the Butterfly House. To give you an idea of how large the zoo is, the three buildings that we wandered through today totaled nearly five miles of walking for me.

After checking into our hotel, we ate dinner at Upstream Brewing Company and finished the night in the hotel pool.

We are all looking forward to tomorrow!

Personal Fitness Merit Badge

Laura is working on completing the Personal Fitness merit badge for Eagle Scout. She finished the physical requirements today. Hopefully, she will get everything signed off with her merit badge counselor on Monday.

That will just leave the Emergency Preparedness merit badge, which she should complete on Tuesday, and the Sustainability merit badge, which she hopes to complete next weekend. Eagle Scout is so close!

Refrigerator

I cleaned the meat drawer in the refrigerator today and then, I cleaned the produce drawer. Before I knew it, I was cleaning the entire refrigerator.

The refrigerator is so much more organized now. As an aside, chocolate ice cream syrup actually molds. Who knew?
