After an exhausting couple of weeks, Andy and I finally took some time for ourselves and went on a bike ride with Lauren. It was a beautiful night, a great friend, and bikes!
Mom Fail
This was my conversation with Laura as she came down the stairs and was surprised to find me at home.
Laura: Mom, you’re home!
Me: Yes, I am. I’ve been here for 30 minutes.
Laura: No, you have not been home for 30 minutes.
Me: Yes, I have.
Laura: No, you have not.
Me: Yes. I have.
Laura (with hands on her hips): No, Mother, you have NOT been home. I know this because I Google Mapped you. You were NOT home. You were at Aldi.
Me: I walked in the door thirty minutes ago. Google Maps isn’t always accurate.
Laura: Good to know…
That would be a Mom fail. Now, she knows that Google Maps can sometimes not be completely up-to-date. Can I go back and start that conversation over?!?
More Baseball and Girl Scouts
The Shockers did it! They won their second game today and picked up their first tournament win. The boys were very excited! I just wish I would have been there to see the finish.
While the blog has been dominated lately by Kid #2-related activities, Kid #1 has been quietly working away on school and Girl Scouts. Her troop had Court of Awards today and Laura earned 13 more patches. Way to go!
Her troop also wrote up their summer bucket lists to earn a new fun patch. Laura’s bucket list is posted on the refrigerator and we will cross things off as she completes them. If only she knew that #5 is quietly waiting for her at CycleX. She is going to be so happy when we take her over there on Mother’s Day to pick it up! I cannot wait to see that smile.
Cub Scouts and Baseball
Andy and John got John’s Pinewood Derby car ready to run in the Cub Scout District races. While we did not get to see the actual races as John was playing baseball, we were told that his car finished in the top 10 out of 28. Not bad! Mostly, we are super proud because all four of John’s Pinewood Derby cars got to participate in the district races. That is a pretty good streak!
We spent the rest of the day at a baseball tournament.
The Shockers played two games. While they played pretty well, they still have issues with not being able to finish. There always seems to be that one inning where the wheels just come off. I know they will get it eventually. Finishing is something teams just have to figure out. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day and the Shockers can pick up their first tournament win!
Mizzou Baseball Buddies
The Withrow Electric Shockers got to go to a Mizzou Baseball game as “Mizzou Baseball Buddies” this evening. The dad of one of the boys found the program and it turned out to be an amazing evening for the boys!
We arrived at the ballpark at 4:30 to watch batting practice. The boys were so excited and got lots of high fives and fist bumps from both Mizzou and Georgia players. You cannot see it very well in this photo, but a Mizzou player is walking the line to give each boy a fist bump.
After batting practice, the boys lined up to go on the field. As part of the program, they get to stand in line with the Mizzou players for the National Anthem. They make sure to get the baseball buddies teams on the field a bit early so they can interact with the players and get some pictures taken. John was so excited because Mizzou’s catcher came over to say hello to them all.
I was proud of the team as they lined up for the anthem. They represented Withrow Electric well!
We spent the rest of the evening watching the game. Mizzou lost, but they sure tried for that comeback in the ninth inning. Never give up! To cap off the night, there were fireworks at the end and John got his baseball signed by several players. It was a great, fun night at the ballpark and something that John will not forget.
A Coach’s Job
Sometimes, a coach’s job is to pick the boys up after a game where literally every call by the umpires went against them and there was questionable sportsmanship by the other team. It is always, always better to play honest. Thanks, Coach, for helping the boys to remember that and to look forward and not backward!
