Valuable Lesson

We took John and Ari to dinner at Flat Branch Pub & Brewing for the opening of Oktoberfest!

It was tasty German food and beer for Andy and me!

The kids had driven separately so that Andy and I could hang out and have another beer. Those beers were still half full when John called to say that Ari’s car was stolen. So, we left them on the table and quickly paid the bill to go meet the kids. Despite the initial concern about the kids and having to talk to the police, the evening did end well because Ari’s car was recovered a couple of hours later. It turns out that someone got in the wrong car and did not realize that the black Prius she drove away with was not her daughter’s car. When the woman realized that she had accidentally stolen a car, she immediately called 911 to report it. All in all, Andy and I now have a good story to tell and both John and Ari learned a valuable lesson. Never leave your car unlocked with the keys inside!

Weekend of Marching Band

It was a fun weekend of marching band for the Kassels. Laura had the Farmington Marching Invitational with the SEMO Marching Band.

John had Friday Night Lights followed by the Kansas City Championships with the Hickman High School Marching Band.

My kids do not know this yet, but they will someday. Marching Band is where it is at. No matter what is going on in their lives, they will always have a “home” on the field even when they are not marching anymore. The other members of the band are their people, their friends, and their teammates.

They will both walk off the field for the last time in just a few short years, but I know that they will always remember these weekends and marching band life. For this weekend, Laura will remember that it was her first time being a member of the exhibition band, and John will remember winning their first competition of the season and bringing home SEVEN trophies.

Marching Band. These are memories like no other.
