Trip to Illinois

My Dad has been recovering from a bout in the hospital at my aunt’s house. Yesterday, she called me to tell me that she was calling 911 to take him to the hospital as he was running a fever. Once at the hospital, the doctors identified an infection and began treating that. Today, he took a turn for the worse and was having trouble breathing. His blood pressure was also a large concern. She called me at noon today and asked me to come to Rockford because whatever was going on was bad. I was in the car by 12:45 and on the way. As I drove, I was receiving constant phone calls, texts, etc. About 4 pm, my brother called to tell me that Dad had a blood clot in his lung and he needed immediate surgery. As we both hold Power of Attorney, we approved the surgery and Dad was taken in at 6:30. I arrived in Byron at my aunt’s house about 7 pm and the wait began for word from the results of the surgery. At about 11:30, I received a phone call that Dad had made it through and that the surgery went “very, very, very well.” I am highly relieved, but it will still be a long road. He actually had two pulmonary embolisms – one in his lung and one in his leg. We will see how he is doing tomorrow when I get to the hospital. Please keep him in your thoughts.
