It was a busy, busy, busy day for the Kassel Household. Laura and I began the day working at a cookie booth at Westlake Ace Hardware for her Girl Scout troop. The girls have had a great year selling cookies and they all did a great job!
While we were selling cookies, Andy and John finished his Pinewood Derby car and then headed to the Derby. It was John’s first Pinewood Derby and he was very excited. Laura and I managed to make it there before the first race and I am glad that we did. What a neat experience for all of us! John was definitely nervous when his car was racing, but it was all good. John did very well, finishing first in design for his Den and second in time for his Den. He did not place in the top three overall for the Cub Scout Pack, but he was still very happy and excited with the day.
I left the Pinewood Derby just a bit early so that I could race home and get a frozen pizza ready. There was limited time to get Andy and Laura ready for another first – the Girl Scout Sweetheart Dance. While Andy got ready, I got Laura ready. Generally, she hates having her hair curled, but she was fine with it this time. She was very excited to see how she looked once her hair was done, her dress was on, and her corsage was on her wrist. She even got to wear one of my Sigma Chi Cross necklaces. The two of them sure made a great-looking couple!
They both had a great time at the “Princess Magic”-themed dance. Laura danced nearly the whole time and came home with tired feet. I’ll call that a successful first dance.
