We began the day at the Salute to Veterans Memorial Day Parade in downtown Columbia with Rachel and Alia. The kids loved watching the US Army’s Golden Knights jump into the different intersections and they were even more excited when the members walked down the lines to give high fives and shake hands with the kids.
After standing out in the sun for about an hour for the parade, we stopped at Baskin Robbins for ice cream on the way home. It was while John was eating ice cream that I noticed that his loose tooth was actually starting break free. Once we got home, John and I sat down and worked on pulling the tooth. There was no way he could eat an actual lunch with the tooth because it would have come out and he might have swallowed it. After about 20 minutes of wiggling, John gave one final pull and lost his first tooth! He was so excited that he was jumping up and down. Looks like a Tooth Fairy visit is in order tonight!
After lunch and all the excitement of the three-day weekend, John laid down on the couch to watch some television. It was not long before he was sound asleep. Laura joined him a bit later and she also fell asleep.
With the kids sleeping, Andy and I enjoyed a quiet, relaxing afternoon. We woke the kids up about 4:45 – just in time for dinner – and had a typical “Sunday” evening. Memorial Day weekend was busy, but very fun, and it was a great opening to summer!
