What a busy day! First and foremost, I turned 40 today. What’s it feel like you ask? Not really different than 39 and not traumatic either. I did find my “16 things I’ve learned” list that I made when I turned 16 about a week ago and let’s just say that I’m a *little* older and a *tad* wiser these days. What’s on that list you ask? Maybe I’ll share it with you or maybe I’ll just make a new “40” list. Now, on to the day…
After a busy day at work, it was off to John’s preschool graduation. Both Andy and I were apprehensive about this ceremony because John does NOT like to get up in front of people like that. Did I mention he does NOT like to get up in front of people like that? Also, I saw the mortarboards that they made (ridiculously cute, by the way) to wear for the ceremony and John likes hats about as much as he likes to get up in front of people. However, he was AMAZING! He came down the stairs after nap WITH the mortarboard on and he was full of smiles! John ran over to hug us and then was off to join his best friends for the ceremony. The class sang two songs and then each child was presented with a diploma and a ring lollipop. It was great to see him be able to be up in front of people and not be at all shy. Maybe our little boy is growing up!
We stopped at home to change clothes after graduation and I got to see my birthday presents. Andy got me a Mizzou purse made by the mother of one of his coworkers, some beautiful flowers complete with a Sympathy card, and a cake made ENTIRELY OF FROSTING! Yummy!
Unfortunately, we didn’t have much time to hang out (or eat my beloved frosting cake) because we had to go to Laura’s Summer School Open House. She will be attending the Gifted Program Summer Academy and she starts on Monday. It was a quick trip through Smithton Middle School, but at least she knows where her homeroom is and what the school is like. Also, she seems excited so that’s a big plus.
After the Open House, we headed over to Olive Garden for a 40th Birthday Celebration dinner. I ordered a glass of white wine and Braised Beef and Tortelloni and it was fantastic. However, I only managed to eat about half of it and ended up boxing up the rest to take home. Andy did mention to the waitress that it was my birthday and she ended up bringing me a fantastic looking cheesecake to take home too! Oh… frosting cake or cheesecake… These decisions are unfair! On a humorous side note, as Andy was paying the bill at Olive Garden, he noticed that the name of our waitress was “Coco Chanel.” No, I’m not kidding. Coco. Chanel. How classic is that?
All in all, it was a great birthday and I’m off to enjoy either frosting or cheesecake. What’s a girl to do when faced with a choice like that?!? Eat them both! Just not all at once, because that would be like 20,000 calories in one sitting. Just because I’m now 40 doesn’t mean that dementia has set in!
