…OK, so that is pure sarcasm right there. We welcomed Spring with a snowstorm that produced between 8-10 inches of snow in Columbia. It started overnight and we woke up to probably 4 inches of snow already on the ground.
Since Andy was in Evanston, IL, for a meeting, it was up to me to shovel the driveway. Taking a page from his book, I shoveled the driveway early and then again a couple of hours later. My first pass was at about 8 am and I removed between 4-5 inches of snow. By the time I was done, the driveway was already covered over again. I expected that, but I was very thankful for getting it done early. The snow was extremely wet and heavy and my back would not have been able to handle 9-10 inches at one time. I went out again about 10 am for a second pass and removed 3-4 inches of snow. I’m glad I did because the driveway never covered over again. Any snow that hit the driveway after my second pass melted pretty quickly. Yay for no more shoveling!
Andy had the unfortunate task of driving from Evanston back to Columbia. It’s normally a six-hour drive, but it took him almost eight hours. He had to drive right through the heart of the storm in Illinois. For a man from Chicago, Andy commented that it was probably the worst snowstorm that he had ever driven through. We kept in touch throughout the day and I tracked his progress through Google Latitude. Once he got to Missouri, the roads were relatively clear and he could drive normal speeds. Throughout part of Illinois, he was driving 20-30 miles per hour on the Interstate. Andy did mention that people were stopping along the road to clear off the front of their cars. I wasn’t particularly surprised by this as snow does build up, but I wasn’t prepared for this…
Suffice it to say, we were all glad to see him make it home safely! I think we all *might* be ready for a real Spring now though…
