We spent most of the day at Ridgeway Elementary School for their only fundraiser, FunDay. What a great time! Kathryn Dothage came to join us and all three kids had a blast. The kids spent most of the day playing games. The Enviromaze (a huge maze the length of two classrooms made entirely from large appliance boxes) was the favorite of all three kids. Next to that, the girls enjoyed getting their faces painted – both chose butterflies of differing colors. Kathryn also got “Crazy Hair” stripes!
John most enjoyed the sports games – Football, Basketball, and Hammerhead. In Hammerhead, you were supposed to try to launch the penguin into the box, but John was uninterested in that. He just wanted to swing that mallet as hard as he could and launch that penguin as far as he could.
The games were fun and interesting and the kids really enjoyed themselves! I’m glad that we bought 150 tickets because we used them all, though we used the last of them with about 10 minutes left before the games closed. After the games closed, it was into the gymnasium for the Big Drawing. There were 36 fantastic prize packages and the gym was packed with people.
Much to our delight and surprise, Laura’s name was drawn and we won one of the packages! Laura seems to always have her name drawn so I had put her name on all our tickets. 🙂 We won five different sets of tickets to various things around the state of Missouri. This coming summer we’ll be enjoying a day at Big Surf Waterpark, the Missouri State Fair, Talking Rock Caverns, a show at the Lyceum Theatre, and the Main Street Opry.
We didn’t win anything that we bid on in the silent auction, but that’s ok too. It just means that more money was raised for Ridgeway because other families bid higher than we did. All in all, we VERY much enjoyed our first FunDay! We were very happy that Kathryn could come with us. Thanks Andrea and Keith for “loaning” her out for the day! Next year, I’ll definitely volunteer to help with the games or silent auction. I didn’t volunteer this year because I really wanted to experience all of FunDay. I’m glad I did that because it was really a neat experience and now I have a better understanding of the whole experience. The countless hours of work it takes to put this on is amazing and Ridgeway definitely has some extremely awesome parents and families out there!
